Black Masses

The Sound of UK Gospel
Black Masses were formed by Cleveland Anderson in 1993, as a family of Musicians, Writers and
Producers. Releasing their debut single "In the Bottle", the Gil Scott Heron classic on the Tom Tom
Club Label, featuring Lance Lee on lead vocals, the record achieved both US & European underground
success.

The 1st release was soon followed by their 2nd single, the big underground Club classic "Put A Smile
On My Face/Keep On Smiling" with the classy lead vocals of Eva Clayton and featuring Angie Brown,
Aleana Adams and Mary Pearce on background vocals. Written by Cleveland Anderson and Produced
by Cleveland Anderson and Pete Hines of Incognito, once again Black Masses achieved worldwide
attention which led to a a three year deal with Beggars Banquet/XL Records with "Keep on Smiling"
receiving further mixes by Eric Merillo.

Tom Tom Club re-signs Black Masses for the 2nd time & Black Masses returns with their 3rd release,
welcoming on board new faces Curtis Stewart-Paul & and Julie Vandekirk. Black Masses begins to
incorporate the "live sound" to their vibe. With the outstanding "Wonderful Person" (written by Curtis
Mayfield & Cleveland Anderson) with Julie Vandekirk ‘s beautiful lead vocal, Angie Brown, Aleana
Adams on backgrounds, Curt Stewart-Paul on bass, the recording is co-produced by Cleveland
Anderson & Curt Stewart-Paul and features Camron on Guitar & Pete Hines on Keys. "Wonderful
Person" is a blend of uplifting Gospel, Soulful Garage meets Classic Disco which causes major
underground devastation and massive interest worldwide.

After so much interest and negotiations with many sources, "Wonderful Person" was licensed in 1998
to top US Producers Louie Vega & Kenny Dope Gonzalez, Masters at Work MAW Label, before going
on to secure further licensing deals with Saga/Japan & Oxyd/Italy, With mixes from top Italian
DJ/Producers Bini & Martini, further success resulted in deals for Greece, Canada, Australia etc; plus
various compilation deals including the United Nations 2000 compilation, marking 50 years of human
rights; the Universal Sounds Soulful Garage Vol 1 & the BMG/RCA Grant Nelson compilation.
Black Masses release their 4th single "My Heavenly Stars" as a tribute to one of the all time Soul
greats, the Godfather of Soul, Al Green. "My Heavenly Stars" is a blend of pure Gospel, R&B, Soul,
Latin, Salsa, Jazz and Boogie with yet another great vocal talent - Miss Angie Brown on lead vocals.
Miss Brown gets deeply into the questions and deals with the answers..... with a strong and powerful
performance, together with Julie Vandekirk & Gary Barouille on backing vocals, Bame Hayes on Keys
& Mark Waterman on Sax. Co-Produced by Cleveland Anderson and Curtis Stewart-Paul, and CoWritten by Cleveland Anderson and Angie Brown.

The production team of Cleveland Anderson & Curtis Stewart-Paul have remixed the Darryl D'
Bonneau single "Just To Be With You" for Easy Street Records, a real slice of quality music, one for all
Soul People everywhere. Hot on the heels of "Just To Be With You" comes the highly recommended
Black Masses mixes of De' Lacy's, "Love Me", also for the Easy Street label. Vocally, De' Lacy delivers
real power and musically, Black Masses takes you back.... way back when music not only sounded
good, but also sure felt damn good. Remixes by Blaze (Shelter Mixes), Timmy Regisford, Polarbabies
