Based in the northern Italian city of Brescia, DJ Shield is one of the new breed of Italian DJ/Producers around.
Shield has built up a formidable reputation over the last few years as a top notch producer and remixer. Despite ending his work with De’Lacy producer Bacci, Shield has continued to bag big remixes .
Artists such a Shawnee Taylor, Darryl D’Bonneau, Debbie Pender and Lisa Hunt have received the Shield treatment – the latter being supported heavily by Tong and Rampling on their Radio 1 shows. Also, he has remixed the Duane Harden’s ‘Innervision’ project for Slip’n Slide.
Despite this plethora of remix work, Shield has found time to work on solo projects including WH ‘I’ve Got It’ and The Punkers ‘Kiss Me’.
Shield now finds himself at the forefront of the recent boom in Italian produced house music. As A&R and in house producer for hot label, Oxyd, he has worked projects like Starchaser, Psycho Radio, Massive Lust, Klonhertz, Flower Power , Jupiter Ace, which got big support from Radio 1 djs like Pete Tong or Judge Jules and from A-List jocks across the board.
His compilation, MY HOUSE received great feedbacks from press and magazines , and recent gigs in Poland and the UK have seen him playing his brand of vocal infused punk-funked house to an increasing number of approving ears.
In 2004 he completed a remix of Bang “Shoot the model†for Yellow and has started to produce under his NUfrequency moniker (check www.NUfrequency.com for more infos) with his musician and sound engenner Cristiano Massera
The first NUfrequency single “808 (Why Oh Why)†is a fine combination of phat bass, tasty guitar hooks and a dreamy breakdown, plus the Dirty Vegas-esque melancholy lyrics of Tom Glide. It has seen the big support from all the top jocks, from Sasha, Dave Seaman, Satoshi Tomiie to Sander Kleinenberg, Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. Pete Tong played it 8 times in his Essential Selection making it an Essential New Tune. They completed remixes for West London Deep (Wall f Sound), Jupiter Ace (Manifesto), Sander Kleinenberg (Little Mountain), Robbie Rivera (Juicy), Basto (Data). In 2006 Shield has left Oxyd and set up his own new label, Rebirth Records. The label spawned a stir of powerful releases from the likes of NUfrequency, the long awaited return of Billie Ray Martin with “Undisco Meâ€, and first singles from Outmode, Robytek, Edison (aka Andy Chatterley) and Adam K & Soha. Always working to build strong packages of high quality mixes, the label rapidly grew his reputation and credibility, trying not to follow the trends but to create its own sound. The releases became quickly a must in the bags of all the most important djs and Rebirth has been already considered the best Italian house label. As part of NUfrequency, they are back in 2008 with “Go That Deepâ€, another taster from their first album. It features the beautiful vocals of the legend Shara Nelson, who achieved the success as member of British dance collective and trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack. Shara wrote and sung one of the biggest and most memorable anthems, and the group's biggest hit, "Unfinished Sympathy," and also co-wrote several other songs on their groundbreaking debut album, Blue Lines. With fantastic mixes from Charles Webster, Redanka and Neon Heights the single is currently heavily supported from the likes of Pete Tong, Laurent Garnier, Jazzanova, Groove Armada to name a few and considered as one of the best vocal tunes in years.
